A full appointment book. Less paperwork afterwards.

A client pays by card. Another pays cash. You restock products, pay your chair rent and buy new tools. When you’ve been on your feet all day, the last thing you need is a pile of paperwork.

TaxSnapper gives you one place to record what came in and what you spent, so bookkeeping doesn’t become another job when you get home.

Every cut. Every colour. One clear record.

Record payments from cuts, colours, styling and grooming appointments as you go. Cash or bank payments can all be recorded in the same place.

Whether a customer pays cash or by bank transfer, add the payment yourself. Review your recorded income and expenses without piecing together notebooks and spreadsheets.

A clearer idea of what to set aside.

Busy weeks feel better when you have a clearer view of your business figures. TaxSnapper uses your recorded income and expenses to show an estimate of your tax.

Check your estimate as you add records, helping you plan ahead instead of leaving everything until Self Assessment.

Your estimate depends on accurate records and your circumstances. It is a guide, rather than a final HMRC calculation.

Bookkeeping for hairdressers and barbers: appointments, products and chair rent

Keep appointment takings, retail sales and business costs identifiable. If you rent a chair, the amount left after rent is not automatically the sales figure to put in your records.

A practical example

Customers pay £600 for appointments and products. A payment provider retains £12 of fees, leaving £588 paid to your bank. With £90 of qualifying product costs, starting profit is £498 before chair rent, other costs and tax. Record £600 income and the £12 fee separately rather than losing the fee inside the bank payout.

If a salon collects money on your behalf, use the agreement and settlement statement to identify your actual income and costs. Do not assume every chair-rental or commission arrangement works the same way.

These are simplified bookkeeping illustrations before tax and any further adjustments. Read the hairdresser and barber expenses guide for conditions and exclusions, then see how to work out profit.

Keep entries up to date so your quarterly reports and end of year Self Assessment report start with figures you can check. TaxSnapper exports your recorded figures; tax returns and MTD updates are submitted separately.
